ISAKAR DUO - Biography

Isabella Stabio (saxophones and recorders) and Carmelo Luca Sambataro (organ, piano, harpsichord and recorders), couple in art and life, are from 2015 Isakar Duo, a stable chamber music duo that alternates the formation of sax with piano to those of sax with organ and flute with harpsichord.

The duo proposes a finely varied repertoire, ranging from ancient music to contemporary compositions.

Isakar Duo has participated in numerous concerts in Italy and abroad, including the Saxopen (17th World Saxophone Congress) in Strasbourg in 2015, the Festival of Nations in Rome in 2016, the EurSax '17 Festival in Porto, the festival Canne al vento in Bolzano in 2017 and the International Festival Two Days and Two Nights of New Music  in Odessa (Ukraine) in 2018, the festivals Armoniose rime, Almisonis Melos, Kalendamaya, Organalia,  Rassegna Organistica Internazionale of Alba, etc.

 In many of these occasions were performed in world premiere original compositions of  Mr. Sambataro.

Composers Ilio Volante and Andrea Vezzoli dedicate to the duo some pieces.

In 2018 Isakar Duo recorded for the London labelò Sheva Collection the cd "Sax Vanité. The thousand colours of saxophone".

DETAILED BIOGRAPHIES

Born in 1985, saxophonist  Isabella Stabio, is a versatile musician, active both as soloist and as a chamber musician both in a classical and modern repertoire.

Recently invited to perform at the Carnegie Hall of  New York she took part in national and international Festivals in Italy, Austria, France, England, Poland, Portugal, Germany, Switzerland and U.S.A..

She has performed as soloist, with the orchestras “Bartolomeo Bruni “of Cuneo, “J Futura Orchestra”, “Orchestra da camera della Città  di Rivarolo” “Ensemble Orchestrale giovanile di Torino” “Music Chamber Orchestra” , and she is a member of many chamber music groups  like Isakar Duo, Fiarì Ensemble, Demos Quatuor, Duo Stabio-Scravaglieri.

 

She has recorded the cd “Solo Sax One” and “Sax goes Baroque!”, Ástor Piazzolla - ritratto d'autore", for Elegia Records label  and the cd “Isabella Stabio- Temperamenti” for the Hyperprism Musica Edition of Perugia with music written by  Fernando Sulpizi.

 

She collaborates with many composers for the creation of new music for saxophones.

 

She has impressed at a number of competitions, both in Italy and abroad, among which: International  Music Competition “Città di Chieri", "Antonio Salieri", "Rovere d’Oro", and National Competition "Città di Riccione" , “Città di Piombino”, "Festival delle Arti" of Bologna, (1st Prizes), International Competition "Luigi Nono" of Venaria Reale (prize Novecento), "Golden Music Awards" of New York, and "London Grand Prize Virtuoso" (2nd prize),"Ville d‘Avray" (finalist), "Tim" (honour diploma).

She won also the prestigious award scholarship Master dei Talenti Musicali awarded by Fondazione CRT of Turin.

 

Isabella Stabio got her Saxophone Degree and her Master Degree with top marks and honours at Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory in Turin, then she got the Diplome d'Etudes Musicales in Saxophone unanimously at Conservatoire National de Région in Lyon, after studying in the class of Jean Denis Michat.

 

She attended courses and masterclasses at Festival Internazionale del Sassofono of Faenza (from 2005 to 2009) at Université Européenne pour le Saxophone of Gap (2005), at Musicariva Festival of Riva del Garda (2006) and Impuls Academy of Graz (in 2013)

with Claude Delangle, Vincent David, Joseph Lulloff, Kenneth Tse, John Sampen, Johannes Ernst, Bruno Totaro, Marco Albonetti, Christian Wirth, Fabrizio Mancuso, Philippe Bracquart, Griffin Campbell, Carrie Koffman, Mario Marzi,  Quatuor de Saxophones 'Habanera', Jean-Charles Richard, Otis Murphy, Marcus Weiss and Lars Mlekusch.

 

She is saxophone professor at "Giuseppe Verdi" music school and at Accademia "Antonio Vivaldi" in Turin, and she teaches musical education in the primary school "Comissetti"of Pianezza (TO).

Carmelo Luca Sambataro was born in 1979 and took six degrees (MA) with full marks at Turin Academy of Music (Conservatorio). Since 2005 he performed as a choir conductor, as a wind band conductor, as recorder virtuoso, as a composer and as a pianist or organist in many countries, all over the world:

 

  • Brasil (Vitoria, Belo Horizonte, Barra do Garças, Agua Boa, Primavera do Leste, San Paolo, Rio de Janeiro, Cuiabà, Rondonòpolis, Osasco)

  • France (Grenoble)

  • Germany (Welzheim)

  • Denmark (Copenhagen)

  • Sweden (Stockholm, Malmö)

  • Spain (Barcelona, Madrid)

  • Portugal (Lisboa, Leiria)

  • Austria (Wien, Salzburg)

  • Italy (many towns).

 

He is also a music historian and lecturer (he published a music history manual by EdiSES Edition) and music teacher in Italian high schools.

Since 2013 he regularly performs in classical duo with sax player Isabella Stabio.
